Product Description:

Legacy Buffalo Grass was developed by the University of Nebraska and released for sale in 2000, Legacy® changed the way people look at buffalograss turf. It has a dark blue-green color and only grows 3 to 5 inches high. Its dense canopy of fine leaf blades creates a very soft carpet which is perfect for lawn activities. Legacy also shows better shade tolerance than previous varieties. Legacy will grow in shade, but it is not as aggressive and will not spread as well as in full sun. It is cold hardy to Zone 2.

Buffalograss varieties give up to a 75% reduction in water consumption, therefore saving you money. These varieties thrive on a fraction of the amount of water needed for most turfgrasses. With a root system extending several feet into the ground, watering is not needed in most parts of the country. The rest of the country will see a substantial reduction in water usage. In gallons, this means about one million gallons of water per acre can be saved by using Legacy, Prestige or UC Verde. This allows water to be used for other necessities, like drinking.

How Many Buffalograss Plug Trays Should I Order? Legacy Buffalograss Plugs are all sold by the tray. There are 95 plugs in each tray. Once you have figured your square footage and the desired spacing, multiply your square footage by the appropriate number from the table below to find the number of plugs needed. Then divide the number of plugs by 95 to figure the number of trays needed. Desired Spacing Number to multiply your square footage by 18 inches multiply by .44, 15 inches multiply by .64, 12 inches multiply by 1.00, 9 inches multiply by 1.78, 6 inches multiply by 4.00

I bought these plugs a year ago. Most survived the dry summer we had last year in Flagstaff. I live at about 6600' in elevation which is considered too high for the grass. But now the second year it is taking off, sending out stolons up to two feet from the plug. Its completely taking over the bare area in which it was planted. I only watered it when the plugs were first planted and it will stay green through just about any drought. Don't expect much growth during extended drought though.
