Clematis Jackmanii Superba, Clematis 'Jackmanii Superba', is known to be an improved Clematis 'Jackmanii' with its broader petals and deeper rich purple color when flowers first open. The 5" flowers transition from deep purple to a lighter violet with age. 'Jackmanii Superba' is an excellent cultivar for later season color - blooming from midsummer to early fall. Can also be used as a ground cover! Clematis 'Jackmanii Superba' is easy to grow in a rich, porous, alkaline soil with plenty of room for the roots to spread. Best performance is when the tops are in full sunlight and the roots are shaded, so apply a generous mulch or a shallow-rooted ground cover near the base of the vine. Very reliable performers once established; they take a season or two.
