The Louisiana Iris Black Gamecock, 'Iris', has an intense blue-black; velvety texture. Four inch blooms are accented with a band of golden yellow. This is probably the most famous of the Louisiana irises. Grows best in a moist, slightly acidic soil and blooms two weeks after Siberian Irises. They need plenty of water, but a well-watered perennial border is fine. A wet spot in your garden or meadow is even bette,r and they like full sun, but will flower well even in light shade. Blooming season will extend into early summer. Multiplies annually to provide long-lasting color year after year. Louisiana Iris Black Gamecock makes a stunning bouquet.
