Product Description:

The Poplar Hybrid tree, Populus x canadensis Robusta, will grow six feet per year with average and normal conditions. This fast growing tree is often planted as a hedge, screen, windbreak, or to line a road or drive. You can expect this tree to be over 20’ tall and 15’ wide in just three years. It can grow to over 70’ tall. This deciduous tree will require supplemental water until established.

When you need shade in a hurry, we suggest the fast-growing Hybrid Poplar trees. We haven't found any tree that grows like it. It normally lives 30-50 years. It is wind, disease, and insect-resistant and it can take the cold as far north as Canada. This poplar is often used to reforest after forest fire, and to reclaim land after strip mining. But, the best use is to provide beauty and a quick, cool, shade tree for new homes.

Fast Growing!
Reviewer: sjpr, 8/22/2006 1:33:14 PM
Not only is this truly a fast growing tree but the sound of the leaves rustling with the wind is wonderful! This tree is worth the extra watering necessary to get it going.

Very fast growing!
Reviewer: white95explorer, 9/16/2006 11:24:59 AM
If you are looking for a fast growing tree then look no further. This tree takes off like none other. Just like the description says, it gets big quick! It does require a good bit of water to get it going but worth it. I just planted one in the spring, watered it for about a week, and spring rains did the rest to get it going. Great tree!

No regrets here
Reviewer: devsmom, 10/3/2006 10:25:51 PM
I planted this tree in spring, when it was merely a twig. It has grown well over a foot in height, and has a couple dozen branches, and lots of glossy green leaves. In only months! I love this tree, and cant wait to see what it does next year!

Hybrid Poplar Trial
Reviewer: DBJR76, 1/13/2007 6:30:01 PM
I purchased 5 of these trees in the spring of 2006. They arrived as a bundle of 3 twigs in a carton. I planted them that evening after work. I watered them daily for a couple of months, even after they started to bud leaves. My area experienced a dry summer, so I watered the trees daily for for the first two months, then everyother day for a month after. They grew about 14", and I am looking forward to them taking off this year.

So far so good
Reviewer: MindGlowing, 4/16/2007 6:57:25 PM
I ordered 3 of these trees over the winter and they sat bundled up next to my front door for at least 1 month well it was still sort of cold here. Towards the end of Febuary the twigs were put in the garage for a week or so during a 2 night freeze and I was too lazy to take them out after the freeze. Yes I treated them like crap... oh well. The leaves came out even in the garage so I planted them and watered them once. 1 Tree has grown a foot, 1 tree has grown 7 inches and the other 3 inches. THESE ARE MY KIND OF TREES!!! NO LOVE AND THEY KEEP ON GROWING AND FAST!!! I am going to take better care of them now. I really like them.

Grows like mad, but watch for leaf rust!
Reviewer: toot24, 4/28/2007 9:15:13 AM
I bought 10 3-footers last spring, and by seasons end, they ranged in height between 7 ft and 12 ft! I should have very nice shade just a couple of more years - which was my goal. I did have a severe problem with leaf rust though, and Im guessing that my late-evening lawn watering might have been a contributor. I was careful to remove and dispose of all the affected leaves to prevent over-wintering of the fungus. Hopefully restricting watering to the early morning, and the fact the trees are taller and the leaves will be out of the path of the water, this should be a better year.

I purchased one of these poplars two years ago. It arrives as a single 3ft tall "stick" and has amazed my wife and I with its growth. It is know over 14 tall and about 12 diameter. I watered it gently the first few months but have done nothing since and I am ordering two more today.

Hybrid Poplar Trees - Great
Reviewer: bill41857, 6/7/2007 4:17:16 PM
I have planted many of these hybrid poplar trees at my home and have been very pleased with results. The trees do grow very quickly as advertised. They seem to adapt to many types of soil. There are very useful to create a screen, windbreak, or just to plant by themselves. Another benefit of the trees is that they love moisture and will help to absorb excess water from any low lying areas of your lawn that do not drain well.

Fantastic Growth!
Reviewer: USAFPOL, 8/15/2007 10:20:28 PM
I received four 3 twigs in May 07, and had them sitting in the package for a month trying to figure out where to plant them. I put them in the ground in the middle of Jun, watered them every other day (were in a drought out here) and of 15 Aug, each has sprouted at least a dozen new limbs and has grown 2!! Some of the newer branches that sprouted lower on the tree have grown over 4. The only other thing I have done to them, is sprinke a little tree fertilizer on them. I cant wait to see what they do next year! I had planted several other trees in my new yard, but none stayed alive, thats why I planted these babies.

amaziing growth
Reviewer: tbird, 8/24/2007 10:51:54 AM
Arrived mid May 06, put in pot for 2 weeks till installed in final resting spot. 3 weeks later town asked me to move it, too close to side walk. Moved end of June so missed most of 06 growning season being shocked so many times. Only grew 6 feet in 06. Its august 07 and the tree is 15 feet tall and still pushing out new growth. AMAZING.

Fast Growing but Beware...
Reviewer: Mel, 8/28/2007 6:55:28 AM
I have 8 Hybrid Poplars, planted 25 years ago by the previous owner of my home. They are all approx. 70-80 ft. tall now. Definitely great shade trees BUT the problem with them is their shallow growing root systems. Theyre breaking up sidewalks and my driveway. Many of the roots have surfaced above ground and extend out 15-20ft. Were also worried that with the predicted life expectancy of 30 years, were soon going to be shelling out a lot of money to remove dead trees.

Rapid growers
Reviewer: doogie, 8/12/2008 6:21:57 PM
I planted 3 bare root trees that were nothing more than sticks the 2nd week of June. In taking the advice from other reviews, I ensure these trees are watered a couple times a week (especially with a dry spell since planting) and it has really paid off. All have grown a couple feet with trunks covered in 18-20 inch branches. And with only 2 months in the ground, I am sure these will achieve a lot more growth this season. I realize these trees may have some short falls, but considering I started with an empty 1.5 acre lot last summer, these mixed in with other tree varieties will give some character to the perimeter of my yard in matter of a couple years.
