Hyacinth Bean Vine Details:

The Hyacinth Bean Vine Ruby Moon, 'Dolichos lablab', has purple to white flower clusters followed by eye-catching purple bean pods that make Ruby Moon a very unique addition to your garden. The Bean Vine Ruby Moon provides color all summer long whether from the purple, velvety bean pods, purple and white flowers, or the beautiful foliage. The 1 inch flowers are displayed in loose clusters. They bloom in summer followed by the pods in late summer.

Ruby Moons prefer full sun and ordinary garden soil that must be well drained. They are grown just like a pole bean, so support with a wire or trellis must be provided. Plant in the spring after the last average frost date. Ruby Moon Bean Vines are used for quick screens, hanging baskets, or as a ground cover.

I plant this vine every year, usually in several locations from pots with poles for it to climb to arbors. Humming birds love them.Easy to care for.

I planted these vines to hang over a blank wall at the tennis center of a country club. The tennnis ladies, who can buy most anything, went crazy over them, and began picking the pods off so they could grow some at home.

I plant my fences solid every year. They are breath taking. There are some secrets to getting more blooms. People stopped by our road every day.

This is a great annual vine that I love to use for covering an unsightly chain link fence between my yard and the alley...very reliable and easy care all season, great flowers and attractive pods. Easy to keep within bounds, too.

I planted 4 small sets, purchased at a local farmers market in early June. My garden is completely in containers, and these beans were put into dairy crates filled with planting soil, up against the house, in full sun. In mid-August, they are 15 feet high, covered with blossoms (for many weeks already) and bursting with bean pods, which are tasty in stir-frys. Its been sporadically very hot/humid, and cold/rainy all summer, but these vines just chug along.
