Heucherella Alabama Sunrise, Heucherella 'Alabama Sunrise' PPAF, is a fantastic foliage plant that changes color with the seasons! The huge, lobed leaves are deeply cut which gives them an appearance similar to maple leaves. From spring to mid summer, the foliage is bright gold with blood-red veins that streak out through the leaves. Small white flowers appear in late spring on wand-like stems. As the summer temperature warms up, the leaves change to green, but they maintain the striking red veins. The finale is in the fall when the older leaves turn orange-pink for a wonderful harvest look. Foamy bells are fairly compact and work well as a clump-forming groundcover. When you cross heuchera with tiarella, two hardy stalwarts of the shade garden, you get heucherella, another good plant that does well in shade. Like its two parents, it's all about the foliage with heucherella. Heucherella make themselves at home in moist but well-drained, organic-enriched soils. Attractive to hummingbirds, rarely troubled by deer. They are a mainstay of vibrant shade borders and fine containers, beloved because they are so easy to grow and their large, colorful leaves are far longer-lasting than any blooms! Tolerant of heat and humidity.
