The Stock Dwarf Ten Week, 'Matthiola incana', has a sweet spicy fragrance that will fill your house as a cut flower or create its great fragrance in the garden. With the heavenly fragrance and its beautiful flowers, Stock is a cottage gardeners delight as it is one of the few outdoor flowering plants that can be brought indoors to bloom. Place them in a cool spot and they may bloom spring, summer, and fall. They will also tolerate a little frost. The flower spikes are 1/2 to 1 inch cross shaped double flowers that are white, rose, pink, cream, red, blue, and purple.
Stock plants prefer rich moist soil and full sun to light shade. They should be well watered, but not soggy. Plant Stock Dwarf Ten Weeks in the fall in warm winter climates and they will bloom late winter and into spring. If they are planted close to a window or in a window box, you can smell their sweet fragrance. Plant seeds in the spring after the last average frost date or in the fall for zones 9 or warmer.
