The Cleveland Select flowering pear tree, Pyrus calleryana, 'Cleveland Select', has more blooms than any other flowering pear tree. There’s nothing more beautiful in spring than a flowering pear tree covered in snowy white blooms. Cleveland Select pear trees display evenly branched limbs with pyramidal form. This deciduous tree is a vigorous growing medium sized tree with masses of white flowers in spring.

This is an excellent street tree with beautiful purplish-red fall color. It has an attractive upright oval form and glossy green leaves. The Cleveland Select Pear reaches a height of 30 feet and width of 15 feet. This pear has a superior branch structure that withstands ice and wind damage better than the Bradford Pear. It is fruitless and has few pest problems. It tolerates urban conditions, and heavy clay soils.

Are Cleveland Flowering Pear known to survive in the Zone 8 (Columbia, SC)and how often should it be fertilized. Also, what is the recommended fertizer for this type tree?

Answer from Nature Hills: Yes, they are known to survive in zone 8 locations. Fertilization may be done in the spring with fertilizer stakes that can be driven into the ground with a hammer around the tree root system. Tree stake fertilizers are slow release fertilizers and they can be purchased for specific trees such as fruit, evergreen, and deciduous trees. We offer the tree stakes in our Garden Center area. Please click on the tab Garden Center.

The Cleveland pear is one of the most beautiful trees when in bloom. It is very easy to care for and is relatively disease resistant. Although many people say it only grows to 30 ft. tall, it often reaches heights of 40 ft. when properly taken care of. Overall, an EXCELLENT tree!

when is the best time to plant the tree mine is in a pot at the time and is around 7 feet tall and full of blooms.

Answer from Nature Hills: Plants are best transplanted in early spring after the ground thaws and before the buds on the tree or shrub begin to swell or in the fall after leaf drop and before the ground freezes.

Initially when I received the trees, I was very skeptical. They looked like sticks and I thought it would take forever to grow. Its going on two years, and the two trees are about 17 feet tall. They are wonderful! Im very happy with them.

We have two Cleveland Pear trees that have been planted for 3 years. They are supposed to be disease resistant; however, for the past two years we have had problems with them. The leaves shrivel up, turn black and eventually fall off. The Bradford Pears in our neighborhood also have this problem.
