Clematis Princess Diana, Clematis 'Princess Diana', is a late flowering variety that produces masses of bright pink blooms from midsummer through fall. The unique tulip-shaped flowers each have four petals, with lighter pink margins, and bright yellow anthers. The attractive seed heads are an added bonus in late fall. This vivid tubular flower of hot raspberry pink is a tribute to the late princess. Clematis 'Princess Diana' needs a supporting structure to grow properly. Clematis is easy to grow in a rich, porous, alkaline soil with plenty of room for the roots to spread. Best performance is when the tops are in full sunlight and the roots are shaded, so apply a generous mulch or a shallow-rooted ground cover near the base of the vine. Very reliable performers once established; they take a season or two. Prune lightly above the new leaf buds in early spring and remove any dead or weak stems.
