Clematis Duchess of Albany, Clematis texensis 'Duchess of Albany', is a vigorous grower with 2" wide tulip-like flowers. The unique flowers have pink petals with darker pink center bars. Excellent for late summer color blooming from July thru October. Grow it where the delicate blooms can be admired at close range, such as over a low shrub by a pathway, or in a trellised patio container. 'Duchess of Albany' Clematis needs a supporting structure to grow properly but will also grow over large shrubs, over walls, cover stumps, and make perfect cover ups for unsightly service areas. Clematis is easy to grow in a rich, porous, alkaline soil with plenty of room for the roots to spread. Best performance is when the tops are in full sunlight and the roots are shaded, so apply a generous mulch or a shallow-rooted ground cover near the base of the vine. Very reliable performers once established; they take a season or two.
