Rose of Sharon - Blush Satin, Hibiscus syriacus 'Mathilde' (PP12,660), is an upright attractive plant that produces soft pink flowers with a prominent red eye and is long blooming. Blush Satin is a tremendous improvement in hardy Hibiscus. It is a strong growing plant with lots of large, brightly colored blooms. A moderate grower, it's also pollution-tolerant. Rose of Sharon prefers full sun and well-drained soil and is very tolerant of heat and drought. Keep it well watered during growth. Blush Satin does best in full sun, but light shade is acceptable, especially in far southern or southwestern climates. One's ability to shape Rose of Sharon also makes the shrub a prime candidate for hedges. It is a profuse bloomer and not only blooms late, but leafs out late, as well.
