Blue Grama is a beautiful native grass that originated on the western Plains. ‘Hachita’ is a very vigorous selection of the Blue Grama. ‘Hachita’ can be labeled as a xeriscape grass because it has very good drought tolerance. It will thrive in both sandy and clay soils. Plant this grass in full sun for best results as it does not do well in the shade. Use this grass in areas of high foot traffic and in areas such as highway medians. It will also do well as an accent plant in arid gardens.

‘Hachita’ grass natural height is 4 to12 inches (with seed heads) and in very good conditions it may grow taller. It is a pretty grass with slender blades and is greenish-gray color. Blue Grama will go dormant quickly in very dry conditions but it will green up quickly after receiving moisture. It can stand, heat, drought, cold and mowing. This plant can be used for dry flower arrangements and in rock gardens. When used as a turf grass for a lawn, it is suggested to plant the plugs 4 inches apart for best results.
