The Bald Cypress, Taxodium distichum, is a lofty, deciduous conifer of slender, pyramidal habit. A stately tree, for parks, yards. Landscapers and land owners use this tree in wet areas. Bald Cypress trees have moderate water requirements. In swamps, it develops large flares at the base of the trunk, the so-called "cypress knees".

In the fall, the Bald Cypress leaves may turn a rich brown. The needle like leaves are dark green in the spring and summer. The "cypress knees" only develop when grown in or near water for most of the year. This species is very adaptable to wet and dry sites and thrives in many soil types.

This is a very cool tree. I have never seen two alike. I have planted five of these friendlys in the last four years. I planted near my septice field in my backyard and they are growing like weeds. They have soft fern-like leaves that my kids love to touch, it tickles their arms. I recommend a whole yard full.

This is my alltime favorite species of tree. I am going to plant a large group of them in the abandoned easement behind my house. This area holds 6-8 inches of water during the rainy, summer months and is dry for the winter months. this plant is native to SW FL but is rapidly disapearing due to rampant development. Beautiful soft, green color with cinnamon colored bark, make this tree lovely in the summer with an interesting branch pattern during the winter months when the leaves are shed. These trees look great alone or plant in a group.

Dear John Wayne from Brownsburg, These trees love moisture and they will gravitate toward water. They have an extensive root system that will destroy your septic field.

I have three of them along the lake... the are stunning and offer cool shade in our hot Texas summers. Pest-free as far asI can tell, and love being next t the water.

This is a beautiful tree, we have 2 of them in our front drive way. My kids keep wanting to climb them. They look so different then any of the other trees on the street.
