The "Autumn Purple" White Ash, Fraxinus americana, 'Autumn Purple', is a seedless male tree and is a cultivar of the species which is native to moist areas. This fast growing White Ash tree grows 2/3 feet per year. It is almost pyramidal with a round top when young, but gradually slows down and develops an oval shape. Autumn Purple Ash trees prefer a sunny location.

This deciduous tree develops a consistantly outstanding deep red, maroon or purple fall color. There are few if any trees with longer lasting fall colors. The Autumn Puple Ash tree makes a great tall shade tree.

We have just planted, and enjoy the color and the size. Looking forward to the shade in full growth. Plan to plant more next fall.

Watch out for Ash Borer!, 9/26/2006 12:55:23 PM

I was struck by the elegant beauty of the Autumn Purple Ash one fall day years ago when I saw a street lined with the stunning maroon/yellow trees. It took my breath away! I have waited years to have one of my own but was warned away due to the Emerald Ash Borer. Worse case scenario: the ash tree will be completely decimated in the U.S. Too sad!!!

I love the deep purple colors in the fall and boy does it grow fast. It has shot up over 18 inches each year. Though it is still small I cant wait for it to start shading the yard, and our childrens play set.

I have an Autumn Purple Ash tree in my back yard. Each year, it is my first tree to start changing colors, and it is spectacular. The outer part of the crown starts changing first and it turns a light purple to slightly scarlet. Then, as you go farther into the crown, it starts to turn slightly red to orange. Then, in the centre of the crown, it turns a magnificent yellow, bringing color to a cloudy fall or early winter day. In the other seasons, it is still a charmer though with its dense, shady green foliage.

Planted in my front yard, it grows more than a foot a year and at 2 years, the fall leaves are beautiful maroon . I cant wait to see the changing colors as mentioned in above reviews.
