We adore our Autumn Blaze Maple! We have hard clay soil, no wind protection for the young tree and we arent the best about watering. It thrives and is absolutely gorgeous! We plan to get more. Granted it was developed in our area- but every other young tree we have struggles (other maples, apples, willow, birch, etc) to grow. This tree is wonderful. We highly recommend it!

I see so many Maple trees listed of this genus, with similar sounding names. I could send my landscaper to one nursery where Red Maple/Red Sunset is available, or another where Red Maple/October Glory is prevalent, or try to hunt down Autumn Blaze. Could someone explain the difference for me?

Answer from Nature Hills: The Autumn Flame red maple will display red and yellow fall color. The Autumn Blaze will exhibit a brilliant red fall color. The October Gory is a slightly smaller tree in stature and will display brilliant orange to red fall colors. The Red Sunset will display brilliant orange-scarlet colors. Other than fall colors there are differences in form. You may view all of these trees on our website.

I have been very happy with this tree so far. It grows very fast, 2-3 feet per year for me. The leaves resemble the silver maple but thank god the fall color doesnt. The fall color starts slightly earlier the the October Glory and at the same time as the Sugar Maple. The color on my tree is at its peek at the very end of october. The fall color is a very nice interesting combination of orange, red, and yellow, more toward the orange color though. If you mixed the colors orange, red, and yellow all together that would be the color of the foliage. Its not as bright as my Sugar Maple but is MUCH MUCH better then a Silver Maple. The only potential fault I can see with this tree so far is the it might have surface roots when it gets bigger.

I cannot believe the resolve of this tree. My tallest specimen reached about 12 feet here at the end of the second growing season (began at about 3 feet). The trunk is now about 4" in diameter. I have one that was damaged by a severe wind storm and nearly ripped in half. But this thing recovered and balanced its new growth like nothing ever happened! I is the last day of September, and these things are still growing! By contrast, my Sugar Maple stops growing by earyly August. Beautiful fall foliage too. Would highly recommend.
