The Alpine Currant, Ribes alpinum, is a very hardy hedge plant that can be kept trimmed to any desired height from 18 inches to 4 feet. The abundant green, glossy foliage forms a dense hedge. Grows well in sun or shade and is rarely bothered by insects or plant diseases.

The Alpine Currant can survive the coldest of winter climates with annual temperatures as low as -50° Fahrenheit. It does well in dry soils. Alpine currant is drought tolerant

Appears to be a plant very adaptable to northern U S Climates. Review does not address Heat Zones that the plant will tolerate. The indication that it will grow in shade or sun makes it a plant to consider.

I have alpine currants and have had numerous problems each summer for 5 years! I love the bushes but am struggling whether to remove them or not! Last summer all of the leaves died and it was almost bare by mid-July. But, then it had some new buds by late summer and came back great this spring. It started to yellow/bronw again and I have tried everything to help it along. Nurseries said: too wet, too dry, too alkaline, gravel in the soil, electric trimmers gave it disease (?!?!?), etc. I have them planted in front of my patio and they are about 4' tall. I am worn out trying to keep them going when I don't really know what the problem is! Soil tested high PH which I have tried to treat, too. Suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!
