The Prairie Cascade Willow, 'Salix pentaphyllum "Prairie Cascade", is a fast growing, trademarked hybrid willow from Morden Research Station in Manitoba.
The ‘Prairie Cascade’ is a hardy tree with glossy green foliage and a weeping habit. The stems are golden and add interest in the winters; grows as a multi-stemmed plant. Since its root system can be aggressive, do not plant too close to homes.
Its smaller size makes it a good choice for smaller yards, and its average growth is about 3 ft. per year. ‘Prairie Cascade’ Willow hold its leaves late into the fall and requires very little maintenance. This willow is well suited for moist areas, and will grow in almost any type of soil.
This tree will require regular care and upkeep. It is best pruned in late winter once the threat of extreme cold has passed.
This tree is a hybrid combining the form of the Weeping Willow with the glossy foliage of the Laurel Willow.
A beautiful and hardy specimen tree, ‘Prairie Cascade’ features arching golden branches that weep with age and are particularly showy in winter; needs plenty of open space to grow!
