Canine vaccines (immunizations, "shots") have saved the lives of millions of dogs. Newer vaccines, including those administered through the nostrils, have been developed to protect against a variety of infections. Most veterinarians believe that annual revaccination is an important and critical part of preventative health care. Core canine vaccinations are those that are considered to be important to all dogs. Non-core canine vaccinations are those that may not be appropriate for some dogs because of a low risk of infection. Core canine vaccinations include canine rabies vaccine, canine distemper vaccine, canine adenovirus (CAV-2) vaccine, and canine parvovirus vaccine.
