Verbena - Homestead Purple
The Verbena Homestead Purple, 'Verbena canadensis 'Homestead Purple', produces deep purple, velvety flowers that dance above this vigorous groundcover type selection for a spectacular show all summer.
The leaves are deep green, coarse-textured and up to 4 inches long. This plant matures at 1 foot tall and 3 feet wide.
Homestead Purple is a nice compact plant with a bushy growth habit. If the plant gets a little spindly with some leggy-looking growth, pinch back the leggy growth to encourage bushiness.
It is ideal for borders, hanging baskets, rock gardens and retaining walls. Homestead Purple should be placed in full sun in a well-drained soil.
Like most fast growing perennials, it responds well to good soil preparation and occasional fertilization.
Use this plant in containers or as a long-blooming groundcover. This plant is very useful at the base of taller summer annuals and perennials.
Purple, Purple, Purple!
