Black-eyed Susan - Herbstonne
Tallest Daisy
The Black-eyed Susan 'Herbstonne', Rudbeckia 'Herbstonne', is a summer blooming perennial with a unique green cone that is surrounded by yellow petals; this giant is the tallest of the Rudbeckia and will grow to 6 feet tall with a 3 foot spread.
It does not need staking, however, you may want to stake it to make sure the flowers do not break at their peak performance.
This plant can be a real eye catcher. Plant in the back of the border with buddleias, Joe Pye Weed, and ornamental grasses.
The 2" to 3" wide, showy, golden yellow daisy-like blooms show off from summer until frost; spreads rapidly to cover a large area.
It prefers full sun to partial sun in well-drained soil.
This hardy perennial is excellent in borders or naturalized gardens.
Rudbeckia attracts butterflies, especially Monarchs. It also provides food for birds in the winter and is mildew-resistant.
Plant in masses with ornamental grasses for a lovely landscape effect!
