Prince Charming Lilac Tree
The Prince Charming® Lilac, Syringa 'Bailming' (PP16,349), another terrific addition to our Fairytale® Series of dwarf Lilacs, Prince Charming® has irresistible color and upright rounded form!
Grafted on Syringa reticulata it forms a wonderful small tree with deep wine-red buds and lavender pink blooms, with a spicy fragrance. This lilac needs full sun and well-drained soil.
It was developed by Neal Holland of Sheyenne Gardens. Prince Charming® prefers soils that are well-drained, near neutral soils, although plants perform well in acid soil.
Lilacs make great border shrubs and should not be isolated in an expanse of lawn. Plant Prince Charming® wherever the fragrance can be enjoyed!
Lilacs need at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day to produce flower buds. Too much nitrogen can lead to lush green foliage and fewer flower buds. Lawn fertilizer contains nitrogen, so avoid using it around the base of the lilac tree.
Prune immediately after flowering to avoid removing flower buds; water routinely to maintain a healthy and beautiful plant.
Tree lilacs are dependable urban trees including parking lot or boulevard plantings; tolerate a wide range of conditions.
