Hosta - Gold Standard
The Hosta 'Gold Standard', Hosta fortunei, has heart-shaped large broad leaves with creamy yellow and variable dark green margins. The pinkish, lavender flowers bloom from July to August, and it has a plant height of 24” and a spread of 36-48”. Hostas provide bright color in shade with their wonderful foliage.
Hosta ‘Gold Standard’ needs to be planted in a full shade area in any moist, well-drained area. Hosta ‘Gold Standard’ was an American Hosta Society multiple winner, and is one of the most popular gold hostas on the market!
This low care perennial is ideal for shady positions, tubs and patio pots, and one of the most popular for landscape uses. A great choice for any beginner gardener.
It grows best in moist, well-drained, highly organic soils with a pH between 5.5 and 7.5. Sandy loam is better than clay because it provides more aeration for the roots.
Plant ‘Gold Standard’ in an area that receives the right amount of light. The leaves need some morning sun to bring the rich golden color out; too much sun then the leaves will burn.
‘Gold Standard’ is most at home in shady, woodland settings and often works well in containers.
Because of its stunning golden color and more horizontal habit, ‘Gold Standard’ is a great choice for mass plantings!
