Grass - Variegated Japanese Forest, Hakonechloa macra 'Fubuki,' is an ornamental blue oat grass that is attractive as a single accent plant in a very small garden, or it can be massed in groups for a beautiful fine-textured drift. It produces drooping clusters of pale blue flowers on 2 foot arching stems from May to August; seed pods ripen to medium brown; blades turn a light brown in the fall. Fubuki prefers a full sun exposure and will tolerate light shade; plant in moist soil that is well drained; will tolerate sandy as well as heavy clay soils. This small plant adds color and texture in rock gardens, front of borders, or along a walk. Fubuki has thin blue leaves that are half inch wide and taper to a fine point; good drought tolerance.
