Ninebark Tips For Midwest/Mountain Regions

Ninebark (Physocarpus opulifolius) is not only an attractive addition to your landscaping, but it is also low maintenance for Zone 3-7 gardeners. Ninebark has white to pinkish flowers that somewhat resemble spirea blooms followed by fruit clusters that birds go crazy for in the fall.

There are a couple of tips to help you maintain your Ninebark. You should prune immediately after bloom in late May or early June. Cut the stems to the ground in winter as this will renew the plants vigor for next spring. Ninebark will grow well in full sun or part shade but should be placed in average to moist well drained soils. Mulching your Ninebark in will help prevent moisture loss as well as control weeds.
