Selling as many different varieties of fruit trees as we do tends to bring in an abundant number of questions regarding the care of fruit trees. One of our customers actually referred a book titled "the BackYard Orchardist" written by Stella Otto to us. After purchasing a copy and taking the time to read it we felt it would be a valuable addition to our website. The book covers selecting the right site, planting and caring for apples, pears, cherries (tart and sweet), apricots, plums, prunes, apriums, pluots, peaches and nectarines. It has chapters on fertilizers, pruning, container growing, pests, diseases and more.
Some of the comments are "very comprehensive, not intimidating and a fantastic book". If you are serious about getting the most fruit production from your backyard or small orchard, you really should consider reading this book. It is a quick read and the section on pests and insects make it a valuable resource guide. This book is worth reading. Check with your local library to see if they have a copy. Chances are once you read the book you will find that you will want your own copy.
