Spring is here and soon plants will be sprouting, including the beautiful Rhododendrons. How do you care for these beautiful plants? There are several things that you will want to do to care for these great plants.
You will want to make sure to pull (or pinch) off the dead flowers on the plant. Plants will exert energy to maintain their blooms. By pulling off dead or dying blooms, you will ensure that the plant does not waste any energy on blooms that aren't going to make it. Your rhododendron will be able to focus its energy on the blooms that are healthy. Also, keep an eye out for dead or injured branches (you might need to do some light pruning if they are present).
As with any plant, rhododendrons need water. This is especially true in the warm summer months. Make sure that you are giving your rhododendrons about an inch of water per week (it might take more if it is extremely hot). These plants generally like well drained soil.
