I am finding that there are more uses for bushes, shrubs and hedges and even more types to choose from than I ever would have thought.
Most people think of them as a good way to hide something you don't want to see, like a fence, a wall, or a street. Many people use them instead of a fence. They are certainly more attractive and most take very little maintenance which is a big plus! All would make good borders in a garden to give a nice background to the colorful flowers that are being grown or to add color to your lawn.
What is really cool is that there are so many types. You can have ones that stay green, some that flower, some that are deciduous and have wonderful twining trunks that create a whole new look once the leaves depart. There are low growing and some very tall, some are skinny and some are fat and wide. You can even combine them in many ways. The options are endless!
An old favorite of mine is Spirea-Bridalwreath. It is very hardy and has flowers that bloom like a bridal wreath in early spring, it has great fall color and is very adaptable. *** Willows are also fun to grow. They really spread out though so keep them a few feet away if you plan to grow them in front of a fence. Butterflies flock to Butterfly bushes, hence the name and they come in many wonderful colors. These are just a few of my old favorites and after sharing them with you, now I want to add some more!
