I love my neighbor's Eastern Redbud tree! It is on the edge of our adjoining property. Because of that, I can enjoy it year-round. If you haven't seen one in bloom, I've included a picture. There are several types of beautiful Redbud trees but this Eastern Redbud caught my attention and puts on quite a show.
This type of tree has been around a long time and I just recently learned that it is sometimes referred to as the Judas Tree because it dates back to biblical times. It's rosy pink blossoms appear in the Spring. In the Fall the heart shaped leaves turn a wonderful shade of yellow. They also grow long seedpods in the Fall that can attract wildlife. After the leaves fall, the shape of the tree also stands out beautifully in winter and especially with a background of snow. It is very adaptable and does well in many different types of soil.
Occasionally, I think I want to plant my own. But, then I look out my window and decide, I'll do it later.....
