Apple Tree - Northern Spy - Organic Heirloom

The Northern Spy Organic Heirloom Apple, Malus domestica 'Northern Spy', is very tender, finely grained, crisp, juicy, tart and late maturing. Northern Spy Apple (Red Spy, Northern Red Spy) is large, round, often flattened; the skin is greenish yellow with striped pinkish red with a delicate bloom, and occasional russet patches. This apple is rather firm, aromatic and has a subacid flavor. It is an excellent all purpose apple, but is not good for drying or making apple cider. Having a good storage life, this apple is good for pies or eating out of hand. Northern Spy is remarkably fresh after a long storage period. The tree is very large, upright, a vigorous grower, and productive. One of the best winter apples in the East, it also does well in the Northwest. It tends to bear biennially. Ripens in late October and needs a pollinator such as Golden Delicious.
