Blackberry - Ouachita

The Blackberry 'Ouachita PP17162', Rubus 'Ouachita', is a University of Arkansas release boasting an upright growth habit and is thornless. Ripening in mid June, 'Ouachita' is a high yielding variety with very good flavor and sweetness. This disease-resistant variety produces a generous crop of large, plump, sweet fruits on erect, thornless canes. The delicious, glossy-black berries are excellent eaten fresh, and popular for use in pies and preserves.


Ouachita' prefers sun and humus-rich, well-drained soil, but may benefit from some shade and a cool summer mulch in hot climates. This upright cultivar does not need the support of a trellising system, and may be planted as a free-standing hedge.
