Apple Tree - Newtown Pippin - Organic Heirloom

The Newtown Pippin Organic Heirloom Apple, Malus domestica 'Newtown Pippin', is medium-sized, and recognized for its excellent apple flavor. It is considered to be one of the best dessert apples!


It has a skin that is green to yellow, and often russeted with white dots. The flesh is yellowish or tinged with green, and is firm, crisp, moderately fine grained, and has a remarkably balanced tart-sweet flavor and an aroma described as "piney".


The fruit develops full sugar and rich flavor after a few months of cold storage.  It is noted for the quality of the fresh and fermented cider it yields, its superior baking qualities, excellent taste when eating out of hand, and its ability to mellow and improve with storage.


The vigorous tree is generally late blooming, and it needs full sun, well-drained soil, and moderate fertility. This apple tree does best in warm summer locations.


The Newtown Pippin was a favorite of several founding fathers, including George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson who grew them at Monticello. It is excellent for pies, sauce, and salads.
