Add instant impact all year! The Proven Winners® ColorChoice® Arctic Sun® Dogwood (Cornus sanguinea 'Cato') is a new dwarf version of the fantastic Yellow Twig Dogwood. It is extremely compact, and even features incredible chartreuse yellow foliage which adds instant impact to any garden!

The darling white clusters of starry flowers are super showy and attract loads of pollinators and butterflies! You may even see a few hummingbirds drawn to these spring blooms. The dramatic colored foliage thanks a fantastic turn in the fall as the chartreuse transforms into orangey hues that add to the bright orange-yellow stems! In contrast, the purple berries in the fall attract their share of hungry songbirds!

Forming a dense 3-4 foot tall and wide ball when mature, these colorful fast-growing shrubs are highly ornamental! In the garden, it will add more color because of its multiple stems. This plant provides cold-hardy year-round interest with the leaf color, flowers, fall color, and winter appearance throughout USDA growing zones 3 to 9.

Planting and Application:

Plant Arctic Sun® Yellow as property line screens, accents, or shrub borders that light up the landscape all winter long. Try mixing other larger and smaller varieties of Yellow Twig Dogwoods like Bud's Yellow, or try a collection of Dogwoods. Nature Hills has an extensive collection of these valuable shrubs! It's a great choice anywhere you need a bit more pizzazz! Even winter décor and bouquets gain colorful interest! For even more interest and a more dramatic winter stem display, combine with Redtwig cultivars too!

The fiery combo of electric yellow and fire-red winter stems would make the perfect backdrop. Run a privacy hedge along your driveway to block snow. Leave enough space to accommodate its mature height and spread, and let it do its thing. Try growing it out naturally as an untrimmed hedge. The elegant foliage, pretty spring blooms, and ornamental fall berries are well worth it!

Suckering politely and creating thickets, woodland groves, and wildlife-friendly groupings, Dogwoods are fantastic for creating naturalized settings in the sun or the dappled shade! Arctic Sun® is also great for erosion control and is highly recommended for rehabilitating moist sites and is well adapted to disturbed sites, and is easy to grow and establish!

  • Creamy White Flower Clusters
  • Gorgeous Green Foliage & Rounded Form
  • White Bird-Friendly Berries in Fall
  • Pollinator Friendly & Wildlife Thickets
  • Great Hedge, Screening & Privacy, Specimes & Winter Interest

#ProPlantTips for Care:

The Arctic Sun® Dogwood is a free-spreading shrub with many upright stems and creates naturalized thickets when allowed. It is adaptable to both wet and dry sites as well as a variety of soil types. It's even shade tolerant, although you'll have the brightest stem color in full sun. It's native to streams and creeks in wooded areas, so it adapted to wet soil conditions as long as the drainage is good. Mulch with a layer 3 to 4 inches deep to 3 feet outside of the canopy to ensure the root stays cool in the hot summer. Increase water during dry extreme heat.

For the best winter color, give your Arctic Sun® Dogwood regular pruning in late fall, or renewal prune by removing several of the thickest, oldest stems right down to the ground. You'll want to use the cuttings in large arrangements and outdoor containers for the Holidays! Leave the young, thin stems standing as they'll have the brightest color for you. If you stay on top of this easy task, you'll be amazed at your annual winter display.

  • Best in Full Sun & Partial Shade
  • Appreciates Well-Drained Soil
  • Thrives in Average to Moist Conditions
  • Prune Late Winter/Eary Spring
