Pluot Tree - Dapple Dandy
The Dapple Dandy Pluot® (Prunus Pluot) is also called Dinosaur Egg. The fruit is a cross between a plum and an apricot hence the name, PLUm + apricOT = Pluot.
The Dapple Dandy is a large freestone fruit. Typically a mix of 75% plum and 25% apricot it exhibits more plum characteristics. The fruit's exterior has smooth, shiny skin closely resembling that of a plum. It is greenish-yellow with red spots, then transforms to a maroon and yellow dapple as it ripens. It’s the mottled colors of the skin that earned the Dapple Dandy the nickname Dinosaur Egg.
The juicy, firm flesh of the fruit is surprisingly beautiful. It’s an intense red-pink close to the skin, fading to a pale pink near the pit.
You are sure to be intrigued by the plum-apricot flavor. It is incredibly sweet with a slightly tart finish that balances it perfectly. Much like a blend of fruit juices where the mixture is an improvement over any of the separate ingredients. Its texture is crisp and firm yet tender.
