Cuphea - Tiny Mice

The Cuphea Tiny Mice, 'Cuphea llavea', is a Proven Selections plant that is used in combos and containers. Tiny Mice can be used as a landscape or ornamental plant. They flower with a very unusual vibrant red and purple blooms that resemble mouse ears from spring through fall. Summers heat will not stop these unique flowers. The stems become slightly woody, arching and weather tough conditions. Place them in well drained soil and then look for Hummingbirds as they begin to flower. Pinching in early summer will promote branching

For zones 9-11, this plant can also be a perennial.

An underused plant Review by Charles K. Kerr

A great plant for concrete planters as well as any large pots in sunny loactions. It will bloom until frost and attracts hummingbirds which is an added bonus. This plant should be considered much more than it is....just give it a good well drained soil, plenty of sunlight, and occasional liquid fertilizer and watch the show!

This is my newest favorite plant. It is striking with the bold colors and interesting close up. A garden walk favorite! First saw this plant in 2006 at a friend's house. She gifted me with a start this year. Hers is planted outside, eastern exposure in zone 6. I recommend pinching early in the year as it gets leggy later on. Love, Love, Love it.
