Chameleon Plant

Color Changing Groundcover

The Houttuynia ‘Chameleon Plant’, Houttuynia cordata, is one of the most popular ground covers around. The Chameleon plant changes color, thus the name. You can also bring it indoors for a houseplant.

Small white flowers appear from July to August, but sometimes hard to see because of its foliage.

It is an extremely hardy ground cover and easy to grow but can become very invasive. Being similar in shape to English Ivy, it features boldly variegated leaves of red, pink, white, green, and yellow with a plant height of 15”.

Houttuynia performs in full sun to light shade and needs a consistently moist soil in a well-drained area.

They have a fresh, somewhat citrus-like scent when crushed.

Use Houttuynia ‘Chameleon plant’ as a ground cover, in rock gardens, with water plants, as a houseplant, or in scented gardens.

Exactly what I ordered! Review by Polly
I just received this plant a few days ago. I have to admitā€¦ I'm completely impressed. It's rare to actually get what you order online. This plant looks just like the pictures, and is exactly as described. It tolerated the shipping well, I can't even tell that it wasn't already in my yard.
Beautiful color and not found invasive here Review by Chameleon plant
I love the colors which look like water colors splashed on in rose, cream and green. I have planted it in a shady area under the hydrangea and butterfly bush which was previously unattractive. It looks wonderful and has not been invasive at all. None of it has appeared in the flower bed next to the shrubs.
Houseplant Review by Jeannie
I really like the changing colors and growth rate of the chameleon plant. So I keep one in the house, just for its chameleon qualities.
Good plant Review by Greenie
I use the Chameleon plant as a groundcover. Very easy to grow and I'm glad I chose this plant.
Pretty...pretty INVASIVE! Review by Don
Pro: Very pretty leaf, easily grown in Indiana. Con: Unable to control the invasiveness with weed killer, digging, or a 4-inch ice storm this past winter. Yes, it is "stinky" when crushed or pulled. If you have an area with large plants, such as rose bushes, the invasion will not be a problem. But good luck in trying to kill it! It laughs at Weed-B-Gone! ;)
