Arborvitae - Pyramidalis

The Pyramidalis arborvitae, Thuja occidentalis, is a tall, slender and compact grower; is an evergreen tree in the cypress plant family. This evergreen conifer tree is ideal for entrance or corner plantings.


The columnar habit of Pyramidalis arborvitae trees makes it an attractive tree for use as a screen or hedge. The bright green foliage is attractive all year, and this variety stays a narrow pyramid with soft-textured foliage.


This evergreen species grows best in fertile, well-drained but moist soil, in full sun and can tolerate some light shade. Arborvitae will grow well in both an acidic or alkaline soil.


Pruning is seldom required due to the dense growth habit, but it can be pruned into various shapes and sizes for decorative hedging.
