Accent Trees

An accent tree is a plant that helps complete the whole picture of your landscape. It somehow “fits in”, even if placed in the background, and it gives your yard that finished look. So accent usually means a "medium to small" tree or bush, such as the Degroot’s Spire Arborvitae or the Compacta Burning Bush. .Accent trees are placed in strategic locations that help blend a dominant feature of a house or an exposed building or landscape feature with the rest of the yard.

Accent trees are chosen to both blend in and draw the eye. Accent trees exhibit colorful leaves, unique branching, flowering color, and size variation. The changing of the seasons can bring the focus to different parts of the yard. For instance, during the spring when fruit trees are in full bloom, they become the focal point. But later, that large elm tree that shades your yard becomes the focal point or accent tree. One of the most unique yard plants that is being used as an accent plant is the Lavender Twist Redbud tree. It is a focal point in the spring when it blooms, in the summer because of the weeping effect it displays and in the winter with the unique contorted branches.
