Salvia Plants

Salvia, common name sage, is a drought and deer tolerant perennial. The Genus, Salvia, is a large group of plants, nearly 500 species, which are native to Mexico and South America. Salvia species include annual, biennial, and perennial plants. Nature Hills markets the ornamental perennial salvia. Many salvia plants have fragrant foliage and lend a distinctive but pleasant order to the garden. Salvia plants bloom best in full sun. Salvia attracts butterflies and is versatile enough to be used in beds, borders, ground covers, cut flowers, and for naturalizing.

Salvia prefers moist, well drained soils. Locate them in full sun to partial shade for best results. Once established, salvia is very low maintenance plant. Plant salvia in areas with good air circulation to help prevent mold forming on the foliage. If pruning is needed, do so in the spring.
