Chokeberry - Upright Red
Tall and Narrow
The Upright Chokeberry, Aronia arbutifolia 'Erecta', is very upright 7' shrub with exceptional red fall color.
Besides its excellent red autumn color, it has a profuse production of red fruit. The 1/4" fruits are borne along the stem, and although highly ornamental, are not eaten by birds.
The profusion of white flowers in May precede the fruit in summer.
It does well in heavier soils, is quite shade tolerant, and requires little pruning. This slow growing, suckering shrub transplants well.
Upright Chokeberry is very adaptable to moist/wet sites, and is appropriate for naturalizing and for attracting wildlife.
Use in mass plantings, borders, informal hedges, or low screens.
