Barberry - Burgundy Carousel®
Purple Foliage Barberry
Burgundy Carousel Barberry, Berberis thunbergii 'Bailtwo', is an attractive 3-3 1/2 foot shrub that displays burgundy-purple foliage which grows best in zones 4-8. Burgundy Carousel Barberry has a spreading habit that droops slightly. It has a height of 3 feet and a spread of 4-5 feet.
It can be used as a color accent in the landscape and makes a good hedge or barrier plant because of the thorns. The burgundy-purple leaves add contrast to the landscape and the purple insignificant blooms mature into bright red berries in fall.
The berries persist throughout the winter, feeding birds and wildlife.
It prefers full sun and moist but well-drained soils. It can be trimmed to any size and shape. It makes an excellent foundation plant or hedge. It is disease and insect resistant and requires little care.
