Buckthorn - Fine Line®
Columnar Shrub That Provides Texture but Saves Space
Fine Line Buckthorn is a deciduous shrub. Use one as a foundation planting, or several as a backdrop for your perennial bed. It also makes an excellent privacy screen.
If you need a versatile shrub and have limited space requirements, then Fine Line Buckthorn is for you. This Proven Winner’s selection features fern-like foliage for a wispy appearance that will add texture to your landscape. It’s narrow, columnar growth makes it a valuable addition to any area where you’d like a vertical accent in a small area.
Fine Line Buckthorn will grow 5-7 feet tall, but only 2 feet wide. It doesn't self-seed, so isn't weedy and also isn’t invasive (as some similar varieties are). The foliage turns yellow for fall, so some autumn interest is an added bonus.
A truly versatile, deciduous shrub, Fine Line Buckthorn will easily find a home in one or more spots in your landscape this year.
* Tight, columnar habit
* Adaptable to a variety of soils
* Good container plant
* Drought tolerant (once established)
* Wildlife interest
* Urban tolerant
* Non invasive
* Proven Winner selection
* Deer resistant

Love it and looking for more! This is a fantastic choice for small or narrow spaces. It's wispy, fern-like foliage adds some softness but the plant is very sturdy. It has not spread or become invasive and I'm looking to add a few more. A very unique plant!
Arboretum Curator Review by Gary Zimmer
'Fineline' is a great accent plant in the landscape and is absolutely not invasive. I am an arboretum curator and also a landscape designer and have never seen a "volunteer" plant in either the arboretum nor any of my landscapes. 'Fineline' provides a great texture accent, and fits nearly anywhere. I just don't want people to panic when they see the word "buckthorn."
Good plant in zone 7 Review by LaurieB
Although, I didn't purchase my Fineline Buckthorn from this vendor, I felt I should offer a review in its defense. This shrub/tree is not invasive at all. The seeds are minimal in number and have not germinated anywhere in our yard. We were careful to select only this variety to plant. After three years in the ground the plant is 6.5 feet tall, and approx. 22 inches wide. It provides a pleasing variety of texture in our landscape.

I HAVE TO DISAGREE WITH THE NEGATIVE REVIEW ON THE FINE LINE..IT IS EXACTLY AS DESCRIBED. I HAVE HAD MINE FOR 4 YEARS AND IT IS NOT INVASIVE (ZONE 4-5) WITH MINIMAL FRUIT.
