Aster - Sapphire

The Aster ‘Sapphire’, 'Aster x dumosus', a Proven Winners selection, has large, fluffy, lilac blue flowers with yellow centers blooming August through September.

With its perfectly clean, compact, dark green, disease resistant and rust free foliage, this plant has a height of 12-15” and a plant spread of 24”.

Aster ‘Sapphire’ does require full sun, but can take some afternoon shade. Place in a moderate soil range with good drainage that does not become extremely dry during the summer.

Aster ‘Sapphire’ makes an excellent container plant or in front of the garden feature and looks great with ornamental grasses.

‘Sapphire’ is attractive to bees, butterflies and birds and looks beautiful all season long. PPAF

Use this plant in borders, mass plantings, in perennial gardens and butterfly gardens.

Pinching back the stem tips in late spring and early summer will produce denser growth and heavier blooming. This plant may be divided every few years in the spring.

A clay soil buster! Review by Mark
Rating
I love this aster. It is a frequent rebloomer during the summer and thrives VERY well in our red unammended clay soil. Its been running like crazy here in Texas and this little guy is disease free and happy. A great beginner plant!
