Tall and Elegant Privacy Tree

This is the classic American Arborvitae, Thuja occidentalis 'American'. It is used in every state as a landscape basic. Does that mean that it is overused or boring? No way! It is a classic for a reason. This evergreen requires practically no maintenance, grows relatively quickly and maintains its beautiful pyramidal shape and fluffy texture throughout its life.

Several planted 10 feet apart make a living privacy wall. Use a couple flanking an entryway or to frame the sides of the house. One at the back of a shrub border makes an outstanding specimen tree.

It blends well in an evergreen bed and becomes the backbone of a home’s foundation plantings. In addition, once it’s settled in it is highly drought resistant and can stand considerable heat. This arborvitae can grow taller than 25 feet and wider than10 feet. It is a slow grower, though, so give it some time to reach its mature height.

Like a Buckingham Palace guard, the American Arborvitae stands straight and tall wherever you plant it. And just like those guards, an arborvitae purchased from Nature Hills Nursery won’t let you down. Get yours today. Buy American!

This bush is a crazy grower Review by ladycbmech
When I moved into my home 14 years ago, someone had planted three of these in my small back yard right up next to the fence. I had my husband move them out front to use as a hedge between my neighbors yard. These things are four times as big as when we moved them. The tallest fattest one is 16 feet tall and at least 10 feet around. Be careful with how you plant these. I live in Corpus Christi on sandy soil. I have never watered these nor provided any food. They just keep growing and growing. Now, one of the three is halfway over the sidewalk, so I am sad to say that I will need to cut it back for safety reasons. Can someone tell me if I will be killing it? I need to take off a good two feet.
