Organic Heirloom Roxbury Russet Apple Tree
The Roxbury Russet Organic Heirloom Apple, Malus domestica 'Roxbury Russet', is a medium-sized apple that is roundish but unevenly shaped, and somewhat lumpy looking. The skin is dull green with a mottled brownish-yellow russet coat. There will be a bronzy-red blush sometimes on the side where it has been exposed to the sun. Inside the flesh is greenish or off-white, with a somewhat coarse texture; remarkable for its amount of sugar. It is very firm and crisp, and somewhat juicy. Roxbury Russet is perhaps the most popular russet apple grown in the South. The trees are reliable and generous providers every year, with the fruit ripening at the end of September to the start of October. This tree is medium to large, a good cropper on rich soils and displays resistance to scab and cedar apple rust. The Roxbury Russet is an excellent old American cider apple, a keeper and good for eating fresh and can be used to bake an excellent pie!
